What should I know about breastfeeding + COVID-19?

Breast milk provides protection against many illnesses. In a similar situation to COVID-19, the CDC recommends that a mother with flu continue breastfeeding or feeding expressed breast milk to her infant while taking precautions to avoid spreading the virus to her infant. Given low rates of transmission of respiratory viruses through breast milk, the World Health Organization states that mothers with COVID-19 can and should breastfeed. It is the best way to keep your baby as healthy as possible.

Does Simply Breastfeeding replace the class offered at the hospital?

Yes! I designed Simply Breastfeeding to be a comprehensive course and so much more. Not only will you gain all the information you need to begin, but you’ll gain the confidence and skills necessary to succeed for as long as you desire - all with less stress and more joy.

Won’t the nurses in the hospitalbe enough to help me breastfeed?

Even under the best circumstances, hospitals are rarely equipped with the appropriate resources to support breastfeeding moms, and nurses don’t have the time to stay and help. This is especially true during a pandemic. Lactation consultants are often considered non-essential right now as well, which means they may not be available either. Even under ideal conditions, nurses aren’t always trained adequately about breastfeeding and can even give incorrect advice and create unrealistic expectations that lead to breastfeeding problems in the future. If you are fortunate enough to receive adequate assistance, you’ll inevitably be discharged before many of the potential difficulties occur. That’s precisely why I created the Simply Breastfeeding Course and Community. While most parents prepare for the delivery, very few prepare at the same lengths for feeding their babies. With proper training and dozens of videos of real moms breastfeeding at your fingertips, you’ll be fully prepared to overcome any challenges you might face. Knowledge is power, mama!

Couldn't I just read a book instead?

I love books, and there are a lot of good ones about breastfeeding. I’ve probably read them all! What they lack, though, are video tutorials and demonstrations of moms breastfeeding correctly. In my three decades of experience, it’s these visuals that make all the difference in successfully equipping moms to breastfeed.

Should my spouse or partner watch Simply Breastfeeding with me?

I can’t answer this question emphatically enough: YES! When moms struggle to breastfeed their babies, their partners frequently feel helpless. By sharing this knowledge with them, they feel empowered to help. Frankly, they often have a better angle to see what is or isn’t happening. I always encourage couples to treat this course just as they treat a birthing class: It’s absolutely essential.

This all sounds exactly like what I need, but I’ve already had my baby. Am I too late?

Good news: Absolutely not! No matter where you are on your breastfeeding journey, you will find tremendous value in this course, all the other valuable content, and the community that we’ve built around it - even if your baby has already been born. Often it is the lack of knowledge about the most basic facts that will steer you off course unnecessarily.

Why should I join the Simply Breastfeeding Community?

Because you and your baby deserve every advantage when it comes to breastfeeding. It may be natural, but breastfeeding is not usually easy. You need accurate information and hard-earned wisdom to answer your very real questions - and not at the next appointment, but right now. There are also hard days and moments where - despite all your best intentions - you’re going to want to give up. You need real expert support and a group that will rally around you, to remind you how strong you are, and to support your personal breastfeeding goals.
